We the People: American Immigrants in Literature
Author Yara Zgheib will be in conversation with Hilary Hodge about her novel No Land to Light On, her experience as an author in the United States and how it shaped the book, American immigrant writers who have influenced her work, and more.

This special event will be in English and is a part of the Institut franco-américain's ongoing programming cycle, 'We the peoples', about immigration and diversity in the U.S. The conversation will be followed by a reception and book signing.

Adapting The Sympathizer into a graphic novel
Join Pulitzer-Prize winning author Viet Thanh Nguyen and French graphic novelist Antoine Ozanam in conversation with Barbara Diggs as they explore the newly released French graphic novel Le Sympathisant, adapted from Nguyen's acclaimed novel The Sympathizer.

They will discuss the creative process of adapting a literary novel into a graphic work; how memory, identity, and politics take on new dimensions through visual storytelling; what is gained and what is inevitably omitted in the art of adaptation; and why the novel's exploration of the Vietnam War and its legacy continues to be so resonant today.
​
The conversation will be followed by a reception and book signing. Space is limited so we recommend registering as soon as possible.

Angers Literary Festival: Dualities
At our third festival, we will dive into the topic of dualities.
​
Jennifer K. Dick will open the day with her poetry. Paige McLanahan and Dana Thomas will be in conversation with Julia Webster Ayuso on fast and slow travel and fashion, respectively. Robin Allison Davis will speak on her experience of health and illness and how she grappled with cancer shortly after moving to France.
​
And we will hear not just from established writers but emerging writers, too, from the American University of Paris MFA in creative writing program and the literary collective Paris Lit Up about the joys and challenges they face as they seek to launch their literary careers.
​
The day will be led by Gerald Richards, who has spent the past three decades leading and supporting creative writing and literacy nonprofits across the United States and Europe.

Our past two literary festivals shone a spotlight on the wonderful English-language library in Angers. The 2023 festival was funded by the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in France, and the 2025 festival was funded by the de Groot Foundation, which will also fund the 2027 festival.Â
